At the request of lifelong Huntsville resident Carol Chavez, Mayor Travis Dotson proudly issued a Proclamation declaring May as Myositis Awareness Month in the City of Huntsville.
Carol has been bravely fighting myositis, a rare autoimmune disease that causes chronic muscle inflammation and weakness. Despite the challenges of her diagnosis, she has become a powerful advocate—working to educate others, uplift those facing similar battles, and support efforts to advance research and treatment.
Mayor Dotson commended Carol’s strength and leadership, noting that her determination brings much‑needed visibility to a condition that is often misunderstood or overlooked. The proclamation reflects Huntsville’s commitment to supporting residents affected by rare diseases and standing with families who face them with courage and hope.
The City of Huntsville is honored to join Carol in raising awareness throughout the month of May and encouraging the community to learn more about myositis and the importance of early diagnosis, research, and support.
